For flags made with pole sleeves that are 6’x10′ or smaller, we suggest that you use a 3/4″ diameter piece of metal conduit with a cap on top to protect the flag, there are directions at the bottom of this page on flag pole preparation.
For an inexpensive idea to fly your large quantities of Spirit Flags with grommets, we suggest using 10′ pieces of 1/2″ metal conduit and a double wrapped zip tie to attach the flag like the pictures below.
Flag Pole Preparation
The best inexpensive option for poles to fly your pole sleeve flags and pennants from is 3/4″ metal conduit. The conduit comes in 10 foot pieces and can be cut down to any size you prefer. Many of these poles have sharp edges on the ends so to keep the pole from cutting through the top of your flags, you will want to use something to cover the ends and protect your flags. Our preference is a 3/4″ THREADED PVC cap. The cap will stay well by just pounding it on but I always put some liquid nails on the threads just to make sure it does not come loose over time. Once you have the cap on the end, tap the pole on the ground a couple of times to compress the threads and secure the cap to the pole. Now simply slide your flags over the pole and secure them with the tether straps by wrapping them twice and tying them tight. In particularly windy areas, some people have used athletic tape to wrap the tether straps just to make sure they do not come loose. Remember, no matter how you go about preparing your flag pole, every day you leave the flags up is a day of their life, they will last for years if flown during events and stored in a dry place in the off time.
